Got Questions?
Top FAQs
Can I stream anything on Zygo?
Yes. Zygo connects to your phone (or other audio source) and streams whatever it is playing, be it Spotify, a podcast, audio book, or the guided workouts in our App.
What is the battery life?
The headset's battery lasts 2-3 hours depending on the volume. The case's internal battery can charge the headset roughly 7 times.
What is the range?
The range depends on how deep you are and the type of water (salt water versus fresh water makes a big difference). At 2 feet below the surface in a chlorinated swimming pool, the range should be roughly 50 meters.
Does Zygo count laps?
Yes! The Z2 headset tracks laps. You can view your immediate lap count for free in our app and you can save swims to see a historical record over time with a subscription. Lap counting will also be available as a software update for our V1 headset.
Does it work during flip turns?
Yes! The Z2 has a new algorithm to prevent cutouts during flip turns.
Do you have patents?
Yes indeed. We have three patents around our technology to stream live audio underwater.
Where do you ship?
We ship within the continental US at no charge, and to Hawaii and Alaska for an extra fee. As a small startup, we aren't in a position to offer the same high level of customer service around the world, but we hope to expand internationally in the near future.
What is the warranty?
We offer a one-year warranty on the Z2 from the time you receive your order. This is only valid within the US and does not apply to customers who are using their Zygo abroad.
What is your return policy?
Within 30 days of receiving your Zygo, we have a money-back guarantee as long as the product is in working condition. Beyond that, we accept returns on a case-by-case basis. In all instances, we process refunds after receiving the product back.
Can I play audio from my smart watch?
You cannot use your watch to stream directly to the headset since Bluetooth does not travel through water; that's why we have the case—to convert Bluetooth into a different radio frequency. You could technically pair your watch to the transmitter but the watch would need to stay on land, as the Bluetooth signal would fail if you wear your watch while swimming.
Headset
How waterproof is the headset? What about chlorine? Salt?
The headset is totally waterproof (IP68 rating) in any kind of water. After using it in chlorine and salt, we recommend rinsing it off with fresh water.
What's the battery life?
The headset's battery lasts 2-3 hours depending on the volume. (Louder audio depletes the battery faster.) Use the Zygo app to check the real time battery status of both your headset and case.
Is the headset adjustable?
No but we have two sizes: Standard and Large, so please check the Sizing page to ensure you choose the right one for you.
What's the range?
The range depends on how deep you are and the type of water (salt water versus fresh water makes a big difference). At 2 feet below the surface in a chlorinated swimming pool, the range should be roughly 50 meters.
Can I stream anything on Zygo?
Yes. Zygo connects to your phone (or other audio source) and streams whatever it is playing, be it Spotify, a podcast, audio book, or the guided workouts in our App.
Can I use the headset with a swim cap? Goggles? Sunglasses? A hat?
Yes. We designed the headset to fit comfortably with a swim cap, goggles, sunglasses, and a hat. We suggest putting the headset on first.
Can I wear the headset with a snorkel?
Yes! We recommend putting the headset on first.
Can I use earplugs? Should I?
Yes! In fact, we include a pair in the case, as they reduce the impact of ambient noise, thereby improving the audio quality.
Can I adjust the headset volume?
Yes. There are volume buttons on the headset (that double as the on/off buttons). You can also control the volume of streaming audio directly on your phone, and for optimal audio performance we recommend keeping it below max volume. This will also save battery.
Can I use the headset out of the water?
Yes, but in all honesty there are better options for land. We optimized the fit and acoustics of Zygo for aquatic use cases, and you always need the case with you to stream.
Can I make calls using Zygo?
No. The headset receives one-way communication from the case. It does not have its own mic for sending audio back.
Can I use the headset to pause, play, fast-forward, or rewind audio?
No. You must use your phone for these actions, as the headset is only a receiver.
Does it float?
Yes! The Z2 headset floats.
Is it safe to use radio frequency around my head?
Yes. Zygo is FCC and CE approved. The headset is merely a receiver, with no transmitting capabilities, just like other headphones.
How do I clean the headset?
Rinse it off with water, or add a light amount of soap, and dry thoroughly before returning it to the case.
Case
Where should I place the case?
For maximum range, place the case on the edge of the pool, facing you as you swim.
What's the battery life?
On a full charge, the case's internal battery can charge the headset roughly 7 times. The exact performance depends on several factors like how long you swim for and how much time passes between swims. Use the Zygo app to check the real time battery status of both your case and headset.
Do I need the case?
Yes. Bluetooth cannot penetrate water, so we use a different radio frequency, and our case is the central middleman technology. It syncs with your phone (or other device) and broadcasts its streaming audio through the water.
Is the case waterproof?
The case is only splash-proof and cannot be submerged.
Do I need to flip the antenna up?
Yes. To achieve full range, the case's antenna must be extended and should be opened prior to powering it on.
How do I charge the case?
Use the USB-C cable provided to charge the case. If the headset is in it, it will charge the headset while also charging its internal battery, which can charge the headset on-the-go for roughly eight full charges. Use the Zygo app to see the real time battery status of both devices.
How do I pair the case and headset?
The case and headset pair automatically when turned on together. Multiple headsets can pair with the same case as long as they’re in close proximity to it. To "hard pair" one case with one headset and avoid possible interference from other Zygos in the area, ensure the headset and case are on, then push BOTH of the two headset buttons simultaneously until you hear an audio cue. Follow the same steps to unpair them.
Can one case pair with multiple headsets?
Yes. One case can pair with an unlimited number of headsets.
App
What does the Zygo app offer?
The Zygo app contains 500+ guided audio workouts paired to music, ranging from a 10-minute mindful swim to a 1-hour pacing set, with a filter for duration, pool size, difficulty level, whether the class involves gear, and other factors. The app also has a tempo trainer and a walkie-talkie for live one-way communication, and it can show the battery status of your headset and case. Last but not least, it tracks your laps using the headset's built-in accelerometer, and we have a leaderboard based on distance and classes. NB: the app is not required to use the headset.
Is the app available on both iOS and Android?
How much does the app cost?
The app is free to download and free to check battery status, use the tempo trainer, and see the lap count of your most recent swim. To save your lap count over time, to use our walkie-talkie, and to access 500+ guided audio swims paired to music, it costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 for an annual subscription; both plans come with a two-week free trial.
Can I share my subscription with someone else?
No. Each membership is intended for one individual.
I don’t own a Zygo headset. Can I still use the app?
Yes. You can use the app with any audio device.
Is the app available outside of the US?
The app is currently only available within the US due to our music licensing agreement.
